Elijah's retreat is a great getaway place for families facing autism. It is located on Divine Acres Ranch near Jacksonville, TX. This is a non-profit, Christian- centered retreat. They are so welcoming and make you feel right at home. The cabins are 2 bedrooms with a full kitchen, dining area, and full bath. The living room area has a TV with DVD and VHS. They are WIFI equipped. The kitchens are fully stocked with dishes and utensils and has a microwave. There are a washer and dryer. Outside they supply a BBQ grill and there is also a campfire area. I love that they have a bench and swing on the front porch so you can sit outside and enjoy the view and the fresh air. Almost everywhere you go there are hammocks so you can relax and enjoy the scenery. The big play area is amazing. It has a nice water slide that you can turn on and within 5 minutes it is aired up and ready to go, all you have to do is turn on the water and enjoy. This was by far one of my daughter's favorite activities! There is also a big sand pit, tire swing, slide, playhouse, picnic table, and other fun toys. It is fully enclosed and has a locking gate so your kids can play and enjoy and you can relax because they won't run off. There is also restrooms and an outdoor shower. You can hike on all of the beautiful surrounding trails. There is a fishing dock and they do supply fishing poles and lures if you want to fish. If you hike a little ways down one of the trails you will come to a couple of small but beautiful waterfalls. Down by the falls, they have some hammocks hung and a gazebo. No matter where you walk there is always shade with it being a wooded area. The pond is fenced all the way around it to prevent the kids from going right down to the water but the dock is easily accessed. They offer horse rides, train rides, and hayrides. I love all of the animals there. We got to see horses, mules, ponies, goats, chickens, rabbits, and tons of frogs. I am so amazed at the selflessness and generosity that this place offers to families facing autism and I am so thankful to them and for finding this place. We just got home from an amazing 4-day vacation that we were able to take LeeAnna on. As many of you know LeeAnna has Autism and ADHD. Needless to say, we don't get to go places very often because of how trying it can be. This was actually our very first time of going on a vacation or even staying somewhere overnight. We got to visit 2 spectacular places and I will be doing a post about each of them. I have to say we were very worried about even going on this trip and scared of the thought of having LeeAnna out of her territory and routine. But she did extremely amazing and I am so glad that we took the plunge and went for it. It was a well-needed trip and all 3 of us needed the time away. I wish our older kids could have been with us but maybe in the future, we will be able to go again. Our first stop that I will be posting about is the Naranjo Museum and then we got to stay for 3 nights at Elijah's Retreat. I hope you enjoy my posts and look forward to hearing your thoughts and feel free to post about your favorite places to go in the comments.
